Product Description
The LAVA Parallel-PCI, when it came to market, was the first parallel PCI port card in the world. Fully PCI compliant, it takes advantage of the speed and easy configuration of the PCI bus. When it appeared, it almost tripled the speed benchmarks of ISA-bus parallel port cards, while offering greater flexibility for configuration. Users were no longer restricted to the three standard parallel port addresses: the Parallel-PCI would automatically select a free address and IRQ during installation, virtually eliminating user error and resource conflicts.
Amazon.com Product Description The Lava Computer Parallel-PCI PCI Bus Enhanced Parallel Board, when it came to market, was the first PCI-bus parallel port board in the world. It is fully PCI compliant and takes advantage of the speed and easy configuration of the PCI bus. When it appeared, it almost tripled the speed benchmarks of ISA-bus parallel port cards, as well as offered greater flexibility of configuration. Users were no longer restricted to the three standard parallel port addresses: the Parallel-PCI would automatically select a free address and IRQ during installation, virtually eliminating user error and resource conflicts. The Parallel-PCI's strength lies in its Moko S-1 ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit). This chip consolidates a number of separate components into one chip, and is only available on Lava products. This adds efficiency in manufacture, and more importantly, virtually eliminates any possibility of component failure. It is up to three times faster than standard ISA or motherboard EPP ports and supports transfer rates of up to 4.5 MB per second. Initially, this break-through Lava-designed integrated circuit was developed for the Parallel-PCI. The Moko S-1 has been since incorporated into a number of other Lava I/O products and is an ideal interface for parallel port devices, such as scanners, laser printers and external CD drives. Lava also provides a lifetime warranty.

| Customer Reviews: Works well April 7, 2008 More Stuff (West Islip, NY United States) Works perfectly... that's all I care about! My son installed it in a snap. Good price at Amazon!!
May or may not work? April 30, 2007 AZ (Carlsbad, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was unable to get it to work with ASUS P5B Premium Vista Edition MB. Neither Windows Xp or Windows Vista recognized the card. Returned the card to Amazon. Excellent return procudure.
Update: Replaced with a StarTech PCI1PECP and had the same problem. After further investigation I determined that the card could not physically fully seat into the PCI slot. I loosened the screws connecting the IEEE-1284 plug. This gave it enough play to fully seat and solved the problem. Perhaps this solution might have worked with the LAVA card.
Does not support legacy port addresses in XP/2000! March 2, 2007 R. Laidman (Los Angeles, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
BEWARE! Does not support legacy port addressing (278h, 378H, etc.) in Windows XP/2000 even though they claim to in the product description. Once you open the box and read the manual you'll find this, in the release notes- "In standard installations of Windows 2000/XP, the I/O address cannot be changed to a legacy address."
Appears to be marketed under several names, you can recognize it by the claim to support legacy port addresses, and "Up to 3x FASTER than standard ISA or motherboard EPP ports"
Excellent. A little pricier but well designed and with digitally signed XP drivers January 15, 2007 JPG (Pittsburgh, PA) After trying several cheap parallel port adapters that didn't work either with my Compaq computer or with my printer (Xerox Docuprint P8), and that didn't have digitally signed drivers, this adapter finally worked.
Pros:
- Performance
- Ease of installation
- Digitally Signed XP drivers
- Warranty
Cons:
- Price
